Business Strategy
Strategy
The business strategy for the unit has been developed to ensure it operates in a manner that results in the most effective and efficient delivery of its service. When a business operation is chiefly responsible for quality control or enforcement of standards it needs to carefully consider it’s level of intervention so as to ensure it maintains influence and power in nurturing a culture of inclusion, through demonstration of added value. At the same time it needs to ensure it does not hamper the business processes it aims to control by being too autocratic and inflexible. The strategy for the effective delivery of service needs to ensure the right balance is set in this role. In order to first best understand how well current standards are being met it is proposed to carry out audits or design reviews of a number of schemes. This will guide the strategy it terms of whether the union needs to become more closely and stringently involved in enforcing the standards it sets or alternatively whether it can become less onerous in approach.
It is thought that a system of control could be introduced to ensure consultation with key specialists within the unit prior to a project of operation proceeding. This could be introduced as part of the current Oracle Projects and Enterprise Asset Management systems. It is recognised that in bringing together a number of disparate teams into one unit there is likely to be an inconsistency in the way those teams deliver their service. Through monitoring and review it is aimed to set service levels across the unit.
LegislationThe Unit would like to position itself as the custodians of compliance. The unit will aim to identify and prepare for new or forthcoming legislation in a manner that allows for any necessary operations to be undertaken in a timely and well-structured manner.
